Dark, psychedelia and The Underground Youth

«Let’s run honey run into the morning sun» followed by the striking drums and resulted in psychedelia.

DSC_0177_2[dropcap size=big]A[/dropcap] special but not so popular band in Greece appeared once again in Thessaloniki. After their successful performance in Athens The Underground Youth ascended Fix Factory of Sound offering their audience a magical night.

The night could not have started in a more ambient way with Alien Mustangs creating the right atmosphere. Shortly after 21:30 the band from Thessaloniki appeared with their mesmerizing sounds. Influenced by the psychedelic decade of 60s till now, the band warmed us up and delivered us to the world of The Underground Youth.

Even before we heard the first melodies, the cinematic but at the same time psychedelic graphics on the video wall signified the beginning of the following audiovisual show. The selected song to transfer as in underground places was Lost Recording while Morning Sun, Collapsins Night and I Need You completed the night. The Hope & Pray song with Olya Dyer, who gave the rhythm with the maracas, was one of the evening’s highlights that thrilled the audience. Her dynamic appearance on stage with the drums filling the space up gave a garage rock music print. They did not hesitate to show us a cover version of their own song, making Art House Revisited a more powerful composition.

DSC_0313_4[dropcap size=big]T[/dropcap]he mesmerizing, gloomy atmosphere turned to a rock concert during The Rules of Attraction when Craig Dyer got off the stage. Frankie Frankie and Max James followed him and the audience surrounded them creating a unique connection, which was one of the best moments.

The night ended wistfully with Dyer being alone on stage saying goodbye with a solo song. Undoubtedly, although The Underground Youth are quite influenced by The Brian Jonestown, Joy Division, The Velvet Underground but also the philosophy of Bob Dylan, they have created a unique, personal sound. A cinematographic universe combining with gothic elements which bear surrealistic images. They often visit our country, so if you haven’t seen them yet, next time they will truly reward you!
